As a school, we are celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. This year’s theme is ‘reading for pleasure’ and encouraging children to connect reading with their existing interests like gaming, sports, and music. The aim is to foster lifelong reading habits by exploring diverse books that align with personal passions. We have a range of activities for the children to engage in throughout the day and a whole school competition.
On Thursday 5th March, the children are invited to come to school in their pyjamas, dressing gown/oodies/onesies. They can also bring their favourite book (with their name inside) so that they can share this with a reading buddy during a special time of the day. All children will be paired with a child from another class to share their book – with our older children supporting our younger children.
We are also going to have a whole school competition. We are looking for the best story jars to fill our school. There will be a prize for the best EYFS jar, KS1 jar and KS2 jar, so please put your name and class on the base of your jar. We ask that you only use plastic jars please for health and safety reasons (a plastic bottle will be fine if you don’t have a jar). There are some examples below, but there are lots more if you search the internet. We hope the children enjoy getting creative and look forward to seeing their creations.
We are also hoping to have some ‘mystery readers’ for each class on the Friday. If anybody would like to volunteer, please contact Mrs Russell.
Thank you for your continued support – especially with the children’s reading and enjoyment of books.
Mrs Russell 😊
